Campbell River to crown”King Miner” July 1

The contests simulate the skills needed in an actual mine. For example, hand muckers must fill a Hudson car full of sand, level it off then push the car down the rails. Competitors are penalized for any sand that misses the target.

Winners in each of the nine individual events will take home a one ounce gold coin and a trophy while each member of the winning tug- of-war team will be given five ounces of silver. There is also a team competition and draws for spectator prizes.

The over-all winner will be crowned “King Miner.”

The top four competitors from Westmin will have the privilege of representing the company at the National King Miner Nickel Days competition held in Thompson, Man.

All competitors must register before June 27 and pay a $35 registration fee that includes dinner for two at the presentation ceremony. Competitors must supply a hard hat, safety goggles, miner’s rubber work gloves and ribbed toed safety boots.
