Palin Granite Canada has been granted $600,000 from the Northern Heritage Fund Corp. (NOHFC) to develop and operate a new granite quarry near Kenora, Ont.
The quarry project has created five new jobs and is expected to provide up to 10 additional jobs when fully operational.
The development site lies within the Grassy Narrows First Nation traditional land-use area. Some of the jobs are held by members of the local native community.
Most of the initial production will be exported to Japan. Other markets are being established in Europe and the U.S.
The funding includes a $550,000 loan from the NOHFC’s special projects division and a $50,000 forgivable loan from the Small Business Incentives Program.
