Amax wins award for reclamation plan

Amax Gold (TSE) has won an award from the California Mining Association for a comprehensive plan to reclaim the Hayden Hill gold mine in Susanville, Calif.

A combined effort involving environmental and mining engineers, the plan included many features that were not required by California environment rules, but were included to ensure responsible resource management. “In developing the Hayden Hill reclamation plan, we used a team approach to incorporate concepts into our mining operations which are environmentally beneficial,” said Amax Gold President Timothy Haddon.

“We are extremely pleased that we are being recognized for our efforts in remaining an environmentally responsible mining company.”

The 3,500-ton-per-day heap leach mine is scheduled to start production in the second quarter of this year.
