U.S.REPORT (May 11, 1992)

The sale of subsidiary Tenneco Minerals to Solvay America for US$500 million in cash was announced recently by Tenneco Inc. of Houston. Tenneco Minerals mines and processes trona ore to produce soda ash, caustic soda and sodium sulphite. Soda ash is used for making glass and detergents; caustic soda has numerous industrial applications; and sodium sulphite is used for pulp bleaching in the paper industry.
