Recently armed rebels known as the Touharegs attacked Canadian drilling company St Lambert’s camp in Takanamat, Africa, at 3 a.m. Although the crew members, from Quebec, did not suffer from any injuries, their personal belongings, food and six vehicles were stolen.
Stranded in an isolated area, the crew asked for help by means of a 2-way radio. A rescue operation arrived at the camp site 13 hours later. At present the crew stays in Niger to inventory St Lambert’s equipment and to store it in a safe place.
St Lambert, which experienced such an attack for the first time, is also working in Venezuela, Bolivia, Ghana, Mali and on the Ivory Coast.
