NEWS ROUNDUP — Reserves double at Beaufor project

Toronto-listed partners Aurizon Mines and Louvem Mines have almost doubled the diluted geological reserves at their Beaufor project near Val d’Or, Que.

The figure has increased to 626,700 tonnes averaging 8.52 grams gold per tonne from 382,100 tonnes grading 8.6 grams. The ore is situated between the 2,125- and the 1,200-ft. levels and Aurizon says there is potential to develop another 360,000 tonnes downdip from the known zones. This year, the company expects to spend $5.7 million exploring and developing the orebodies and testing long-hole mining techniques.

In other news, Richmont Mines (TSE), which has an interest in Beaufor through its acquistion of Louvem shares, has agreed to mill the ore at its Camflo plant near Malartic. Milling will be carried out on a batch basis, starting in mid-April. The company expects to mill about 50,000 tonnes of development ore this year.
