Thirty trenches have been completed across the Hicks shear zone on the Kaburi-Eldorado property in Guyana.
Cathedral Gold (TSE) is earning up to a 90% interest and reports that, on average, the trenches returned 0.11 oz. gold across 47 ft., even though some of them did not cut the entire width of the shear zone.
Hicks is a steeply dipping, 100-130-ft.-wide structure. It is mineralized over a strike length of almost one mile and remains open in both directions. Cathedral plans to resume trenching in mid-January and will test the further strike extent of the shear zone, as well as two other nearby, parallel shear zones: Larkin and Eldorado.
Historically, Eldorado produced about 100 tons grading one ounce gold per ton. Cathedral plans to begin trenching in an area of mineralized surface saprolite where some small-scale mining has been carried out recently. President Michael Jones said the company is firming up drilling plans, with an initial 10,000-ft. program expected to get under way early this year. He added that the initial program will only be able to test a small portion of the Hicks’ strike length but that, more importantly, it will provide information on the extension of the zone to depth.
Given the known strike length and strength of the zone on surface, Jones said he would be surprised if the mineralization did not extend to great depth.
