Representatives from 12 major mining contractors met recently in North Bay, Ont., and formed the Mining Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC). The delegates, from Ontario, Saskatchewan and Quebec, represent about 50% of the country’s major mining contracting firms. The association strives to improve the members’ image, to promote health and safety within the industry, to protect the environment and to draft a contractor’s code of ethics.
Special committees have been established to address various concerns. The membership committee, for example, will contact contractors in British Columbia and other provinces who have not yet joined the association.
Robert Brown, president of The Redpath Group, is MCAC’s president. The next meeting is scheduled for October.
