Coal conference set in Rockies

The Coal Association of Canada will hold its 41st Canadian Conference on Coal in Jasper, Alta.

The conference, to be held Sept. 10-12, will place strong

emphasis on the international coking coal trade.

This issue is viewed as particularly timely, as coking coal

prices and volumes are up for exporters. For the first time in years, the association notes, a mood of optimism is prevailing among Canadian producers.

This year’s keynote address will be presented by Alex Toohey, chief executive of the London-based World Coal Institute. His talk will focus on international trends in the coal industry.

International coal producers are scheduled to discuss their views on world coal markets, especially coking coal.

A golf tournament is planned for Sunday at Jasper’s spectacular Rocky Mountain course, and post-conference coal mine tours are offered for the Luscar and Smoky operations.
