Vancouver — Drilling by
The volcanogenic massive sulphide deposit comprises three zones: an upper oxidized zone containing high gold grades, about 30 metres thick; a copper-enriched supergene zone in which gold is less significant; and a zone of primary sulphides with high-grade zinc and potentially economic values of copper, gold and silver.
The most recent results are from the primary sulphide zone. Highlights include the following:
— hole 169 — 33 metres grading 6.59% zinc, 1.94% copper, 92.34 grams silver and 0.97 gram gold per tonne;
— hole 171 — 35.2 metres grading 8.88% zinc, 1.55% copper, 72.56 grams silver and 0.93 gram gold;
— hole 172 — 30 metres grading 8.36% zinc, 1.15% copper, 55.6 grams silver and 1.09 grams gold.
The mineralization is continuous along strike and downdip. The strength of the mineralization increases the potential for a significant deposit of primary sulphides below the oxide and supergene zones.
Infill reverse-circulation (RC) drilling is under way, and Nevsun will test the oxide and supergene zones in an 8,000-metre program over the next few months. An independent resource estimate is anticipated by late June.
