Diamond drilling by Major General Resources (VSE) on its claims near Green Bay, Nfld., has resulted in two new discoveries.
In hole 95-6, two gold intercepts were encountered by testing a combined geochemical soil and geophysical target in an area of deformed, mafic volcanics. The intervals assayed 6.2 and 6.7 grams gold per tonne, respectively, both over 1.3 metres.
In hole 95-7, a strong polymetallic zone was encountered between 62.95 and 69.25 metres. This interval assayed 6.57% zinc, 2.67% lead and 0.75% copper, plus 50.83 grams silver and 1.48 grams gold per tonne. The hole had been drilled to test a 700-metre-long geophysical anomaly within a thick sequence of altered felsic volcanics. The anomaly lies 2 km from the Lochinvar base metal deposit, which the company discovered in late 1994.
Seven of Major General’s planned 11 holes are now complete. Geophysical surveying in the area of the new base metals discovery is now under way. Upon completion, Major General is planning an expanded drill program to delineate the discoveries and test the remaining targets.
