Newmont Gold files complaint against Barrick Gold over land use

A complaint has been filed by Newmont Gold (NYSE) and its subsidiary, Elko Land & Livestock, against Barrick Gold (TSE) and its wholly owned subsidiary, Barrick Goldstrike Mines.

The complaint stems from a contractual dispute regarding the extent of Barrick’s rights to use Newmont’s land for disposal of groundwater from mine dewatering operations. Until recently, all the concerned parties had been attempting to resolve this dispute.

Barrick contends it is operating within its contractual rights and will defend its position.
