United Keno on track to reopen Yukon silver mines

Positive exploration results from the Elsa properties in the Yukon are bringing United Keno Hill Mines (UKH-T) one step closer to resuming production.

The properties, situated 280 miles north of Whitehorse, include three past-producing silver-lead-zinc mines. The company is conducting an underground exploration and development program on two of these in an effort to increase reserves. If it succeeds, production will be resumed perhaps as early as this year.

At the Bellekeno mine, United Keno is testing the continuity of mineralization between the 600- and 750-ft. levels of the Southwest zone. A crosscut at the 750-ft. level has confirmed the presence of an 18-ft. wide, massive-sulphide zone with an average grade of 40 oz. silver per tonne, 0.013 oz. gold per tonne 24% lead and 16% zinc.

An internal decline is being advanced to the 900-ft. level, where the company plans to conduct underground exploration. All exploration and development work on site is expected to be completed by September.

Meanwhile, at the Silver King mine, where exploration drilling is ongoing, the company is driving raises on the 5 and 6 veins.

Environmental and other permits for the mining operation have, for the most part, been approved.

Mine development and mill rehabilitation will proceed when production financing is secured, and Rescan Engineering has launched a feasibility study.
