Placer corrects claim to mine safety record

As a result of a previously unidentified lost-time accident at Placer Dome’s Campbell gold mine, the mine is correcting its claim to a Canadian safety record.

Placer Dome reported 1.8 million man hours without a lost-time accident, but a recent investigation by Ontario’s Natural Resource and Safety Association revealed a discrepancy in the recording of an injury in March 1995.

No time was lost following the injury of a worker, but a follow-up visit to a specialist was recorded by the Workers’ Compensation Board as a lost-time incident.
