A symposium scheduled for Sept. 30-Oct. 3 in Sudbury, Ont., will highlight advances in mining and processing technology, as well as improvements in environmental research.
Entitled “Mining and Minerals Technology,” the event
is being organized by the
Ontario Ministry of Northern
Development and Mines (MNDM) in conjunction with Mine Environment Neutral Drainage (MEND) and the Canada Centre for Mineral and Energy Technology (CANMET).
The symposium is designed to draw attention to progress being made under the Canada-Northern Ontario Development Agreement.
The mining technology portion, scheduled for Oct. 1, will feature sessions on: development of a mine-wide information management system; cold bond agglomeration of sulphide mill tailings for backfill and environmental benefits; dynamic testing of retaining components used in underground mines; and support for underground openings and excavations in hardrock mining.
The MEND and processing portion, to be held Oct. 2, will cover: cyanide and heavy metal recovery; tailings and waste rock sites; laboratory and modelling studies of pyrrhotite oxidation; and subaqueous disposal of sulphide tailings in Moose Lake.
All technical sessions will be held at the Willet Green Miller Centre, beside Laurentian University. A field trip and MEND workshop are also scheduled.
