Two microdiamonds have been recovered from a 20-kg rock outcrop sample from Marum Resources’ (MMU-A) 500 Showing property, 6 km south of Temiscaming, Que.
A color evaluation of the diamonds places them in the yellow series, between the “Light Cape” and “Dark Cape” classifications outlined by the Gemmological Institute of America, with good clarity. One diamond measures 0.5 mm; the other, 0.4 mm.
The 500 Showing, described as a diamond-bearing ultramafic target, is on claims operated by Marum under a 50-50 joint venture with Montreal-based Ditem Explorations (DIT-M). The property is 12 km north of Ditem’s diamond-bearing Main Showing and immediately north of ultramafic bodies being explored by Fairstar Explorations (FFR-M), under an agreement with Ditem.
The sample also contains pyrope garnet indicators up to 1.5 cm in size, high-chrome titaniferous magnetite indicators, and moissanite.
The 500 Showing is a large, tabular body of serpentinized mica peridotite (essentially a kimberlite) on the edge of the Temiscaming Rift.
Marum has accelerated and expanded its current sampling program there, and a stretch of road will be widened in preparation for the extraction of a 100-tonne sample. A 1-km-long diamond drill access road is also planned for the property.
