Ongoing exploration by SouthernEra Resources (SUF-T) has resulted in the discovery of an enlargement, or “blow,” on the Sugarbird Northern fissure, part of the Klipspringer property in South Africa.
The fissure has a proven strike length of more than 2 km. The company notes that the “blow” measures about 40 metres in diameter, while the fissure appears to have an average width of more than 2 metres along its known strike. The new discovery is wholly owned by SouthernEra.
Three diamonds, weighing a total of 0.78 carat, were recovered from a sample weighing less than 5 tonnes and taken from the Sugarbird fissure. Further results are awaited. However, larger samples will be required before an accurate grade can be determined.
SouthernEra has recovered diamonds totalling 3,285 carats in weight from the Main (Leopard) fissure bulk samples. Processing of Leopard fissure material was suspended pending completion of a crushing plant to treat the hard, primary kimberlite currently being mined. The new equipment is expected to be operational later this month. In the meantime, exploration work continues at an accelerated pace.
