Junior Roycefield Resources (RYC-T) has confirmed plans to bring its Beaver Brook antimony mine, in central Newfoundland, into full production in mid-1997.
The company reports progress on the following projects:
* The building made to house the mill concentrator has been completed.
* Almost all the milling equipment has been sourced and purchased, and 70% of this equipment has now been delivered to the site.
* The clearing of the right of way for the 43-km power line, and the installation of all poles, hardware and insulators have been completed.
* An earth berm has been completed on the exterior of the tailings pond, which will be sufficient to retain tailings for the first seven years of mine production.
* Clearing has been completed for the tailings and processed water lines; these will be installed in early spring.
* Most key personnel required for mine operation have been hired and are on site.
* The road and bridges leading to the mine site have been upgraded to accommodate heavy transport traffic.
* Construction of a building to house the mine offices is under way.
The initial phase of production will include the mining of antimony for milling into antimony concentrate, both for sale and for conversion.
Roycefield plans to produce both concentrates and value-added antimony trioxides for European and North American suppliers of flame retardants to the plastics and vinyl industries.
