Spokane hosts technological conference

The Society for Mining, Metallurgy Exploration (SME) and the American Institute of Mining Engineers (AIME) will co-host the Northwest Metals and Minerals Conference, to be held April 23-25 at the WestCoast Ridpath Hotel in Spokane, Wash.

The conference will feature technical sessions on the Athabaska Basin, the Coeur d’Alene mining district, advances in metallurgy and a short course on geographic information systems.

Delivering the keynote address will be Donald Ewigleben, vice-president of environmental and public affairs for Echo Bay Mines.

The conference also includes field trips to such operations as Hecla Mining’s Lucky Friday lead-silver mine in Idaho, the Coeur d’Alene mining district in Idaho, and Cominco’s Trail smelter in British Columbia.
