Drilling has extended known mineralization at the Kitongo prospect in the Lake Victoria district of northwestern Tanzania, reports operator East Africa Gold (EAG-V).
The junior says the strike length of the Main and Northern Limb zones has been extended to beyond 1 km. Also, a new anomalous zone in banded iron formation (BIF) was identified in the southwestern portion of the project.
The Kitongo project previously contained a gold resource of 875,000 tonnes grading 1.22 grams gold per tonne over a strike length of 400 metres. The current program of 168 holes (4,677 metres) is expanding the program to 388 holes totalling 11,749 metres.
In the latest round of drilling, 101 holes returned anomalous grades (greater than 0.1 gram over a 4-metre composite), while 26 holes returned grades in excess of 1 gram. The better results include 12 metres of 3.38 grams (staring at 20 metres) and 8 metres of 3.18 grams from surface.
More drilling is planned. In the meantime, a program of detailed and regional mapping is endeavoring to test the new BIF zone, situated in the southwestern portion of the project area.
Specialists have been retained to study the structures and mineralization at Kitongo, and results will be integrated with those obtained from drilling and geochemical work.
East Africa also reported results from drilling of the Rwamagaza prospect, also in the Lake Victoria district. The program returned “encouraging, ore-grade intersections” on five areas in eastern Rwamagaza.
Drilling on the Blue Reef target outlined a broad shear zone of alteration with anomalous grades up to 80 metres thick. High-grade intersections suggest that structurally controlled oreshoots are present. Highlights from the program include 14 metres of 12.11 grams (from 44 metres) and 27 metres at 3.36 grams (from 81 metres). More drilling is planned for this target.
The best results from the Black Reef target (situated 240 metres southeast of Blue Reef) are: 26 metres of 3.52 grams (from 80 metres); 1 metre at 33 grams (from 28 metres); and 4 metres of 8.47 grams (from 54 metres). Several other holes returned bonanza grades of between 20 and 100 grams over short intervals (1 to 2 metres).
Selected results from the Glass Reef prospect include 9 metres of 20 grams (from 52 metres) and 10 metres of 3.24 grams, while drilling at Thompson’s Reef returned 27 metres of 2.41 grams. At Miombo Reef, drilling highlights include 8 metres of 9.8 grams and 21 metres of 1.1 grams.
East Africa has launched a 20,000-ft. program of reconnaissance drilling over the entire eastern Rwamagaza area. The best results to date include 14 metres of 6.16 grams, 8 metres of 7.8 grams and 27 metres of 1.6 grams. The company says the drilling suggests that the mineralization defined at Thompson’s, Blue Reef and Black Reef may constitute one zone, possibly offset by faulting, which represents a strike length of more than 1 km.
