De Beers inks agreement in Angola

De Beers is set to return to Angola following a successful conclusion to discussions with Endiama, the Angolan state-owned diamond mining company.

An agreement has been reached for the granting of mineral rights to a joint venture of the two companies for the exploration and evaluation of kimberlites in the Lunda Norte province of Angola. The agreement will provide for the subsequent establishment of a joint-venture company, which will be granted the exclusive mineral rights for the mining and marketing of diamonds from any future deposits, should they prove to be economically viable.

“We have embraced a solid commitment to establish a successful partnership with Endiama, with the vision to contribute positively towards the future growth and stability of the Angolan diamond sector and the Angolan economy,” says Gary Ralfe, De Beers’ managing director. “De Beers is confident that this agreement will set the framework for a mutually beneficial and lasting partnership.”
