PDAC, CIM call for Mining Millennium 2000 papers

Organizers of the Mining Millennium 2000 convention, to be held in Toronto from March 5 to 10, 2000, have issued an call for papers related to the theme “Mining Excellence in the New Millennium.”

A specific request has been made for case histories of both industry successes and failures.

The conference will combine the annual meeting of two of the world’s most influential mining organizations — the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) and the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) — to create the largest mining conference ever held. More than 10,000 domestic and international delegates are expected to share ideas and experiences.

Organizers are seeking 260 high-quality, 20-minute papers to interest as wide an audience as possible. The week-long event will follow the steps of the exploration and mining cycle, while common threads, such as technical, environmental, legal and aboriginal issues, will tie the conference together.

The deadline for the receipt of abstracts is June 15, 1999, with a formal manuscript expected by year-end. Submissions should include the title and a draft abstract of no more than 200 words, and be addressed to: Neil Westoll and John Steele, co-chairmen, Technical Program Committee, Mining Millennium 2000, Suite 1003, 60 Yonge St., Toronto, Ont. M5E 1H5.
