The property now consists of 10 concessions, licenses or permits totalling roughly 4,000 ha. The new acquisitions, dubbed La Perla, Los Laches North and Cristo Rey, comprise 111 ha of that total, and each was the site of previous gold and silver mining by locals.
Geologically, the areas are characterized by silicified, argillized and pyritic quartz-feldspar porphyry and irregular patches of gneiss. Various forms of structural deformation have been noted as well, as have zones of hydrothermally brecciated chert in the Los Laches North and Cristo Rey areas.
Exploration, still in the preliminary stage, consists mainly of geochemical sampling of rocks and soils. This has led to the discovery of several anomalies from which up to 12 grams gold per tonne and 75 grams silver have been obtained.
Meanwhile, drilling continues at the La Alta deposit, where 53.5 million tonnes averaging 2.37 grams gold and 7.96 grams silver have been outlined (T.N.M., March 1-7/99).
