Kirkland Lake to host conference

Sample preparation and laboratory safety will be among the topics discussed at CMA 2001, a conference of the Canadian Mineral Analysts, slated for Sept. 17-20 in Kirkland Lake, Ont.

A trade show and several technical sessions are also on the agenda.

The entertainment schedule includes a T-bone steak barbecue, casino night, golf tournament and a mini cabaret dance.

Mining expo in Indonesia

Mining Indonesia 2001, the country’s only mining exhibition, will be held Nov. 7-10 at Jakarta’s convention centre.

The event is expected to attract about 600 exhibitors and 6,000 trade visitors. A related technical conference should lure an additional 400 delegates. The exhibition will feature a full range of mining equipment, materials and services for both hard rock mining and open-cast mineral recovery. The Canadian pavilion will be hosted by the Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export (CAMESE).

Montreal hosts metallurgists

Com 2002, the Conference of Metallurgists, scheduled for Aug. 11-14, 2002, in Montreal, Que., is putting out the call for papers.

Authors are invited to submit an abstract of their paper by Nov. 30, 2001. Acceptance of papers will be confirmed by Jan. 31, 2002.

The conference will address various topics, including: enabling technologies for light metals and composite materials; aerospace materials; metal ceramic interactions; new technology implementation in metallurgical processes; and advanced materials for biomedical applications. The event is being organized by the Metallurgical Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum.

Electra coming to Johannesburg

More than 200 exhibitors have already booked their booths for Electra Mining 2002, slated for Sept. 9-13, 2002, at the Expo Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Held every two years, the show generally attracts more than 500 exhibitors. It is one of the most representative exhibitions of mining equipment in the world, and visitors are treated to a vast display of products and services.
