It seems the Soviet mining industry could use some tips from Canad a on mine management, a not-too-surprising development when you consider the reputation Canada has around the world for mining expertise.
A publisher in Moscow, we learn, is about to go to press with a book called “Mine Management,” a 500-page opus on effective operational management, written just a few years ago by Douglas Sloan, former director of mining services for Coopers & Lybrand Associates, Toronto.
The book has already been published (in English), in Toronto, New Yo rk, London, and Sydney. We feel a little ambivalent of course, about its appearance in the U.S.S.R. The competition is tough enough in the world without a book which might help improve on the Russian variety.
