Platinum refinery Madeleine’s aim

Extensive metallurgical testing is getting under way by Madeleine Mines relating to the treatment of the concentrate to be produced from its large Lac Des Iles deposit of platinum group metals. This work is primarily hydrometallurgical in nature and will include bench tests to be carried out in Ottawa at the Canada Centre for Mineral and Energy Technology under a recent agreement with CANMET.

Also, a small pilot plant is to be constructed at the Timmins Testing Laboratory at Timmins, Ont., where parallel testing will be carried out .

If successful, these tests will be used as the basis for the designing of a concentrate treatment plant and refinery which Madeleine is considering building in northern Ontario or elsewhere, J. P. Sheridan, president, tells The Northern Miner.

Studies are already under way to determine the most beneficial site for the proposed plant.
