Obituary – Veteran prospector A.E. Lafontaine dies

A veteran prospector who was well known throughout the mining industry within which he worked for 65 years, Amedee Frederick Lafontaine, died at Thunder Bay, Ont., at the age of 87.

Born at Compte Laviolette, Que., he was responsible for three mines being brought into production, along with a number of other properties of merit now being held under lease. Timmins Corp. and Macassa Mines were among the mining companies for which he worked, as well as more than 20 individual syndicates.

Before retiring to Thunder Bay in 1977, he operated a well known tourist establishment near Jellicoe in Northwestern Ontario called “Endy’s Landing.”
