Come rain or shine, the Women’s Association of the Mining Industry of Canada says it will stage its 10th Country Fun Fair on Saturday, Sept 19, at the St. Ilija Macedonian Orthodox Church picnic grounds in Mississauga, Ont. Proceeds from the fair, which will have the customary and proven- successful grab-bag of events and entertainment, will go toward association bursaries and charitable donations.
Included in the event (due to run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) will be a scavenger hunt, outdoor barbecue, displays of crafts, baking, preserves and candy, a bottle draw and gold panning, and entertainment by “surprise” guests.
A special feature this year will be a raffle, in which the first prize is a 52 mg-td replica sports car, the second a bronze sculpture of a miner drilling, by Siggy Puchta, and the third a 1-oz platinum coin.
Each raffle ticket will sell for $25, but the association points out that only 3,000 will be sold, giving good odds for potential winners.
Adults will pay $5 to get into the Fair, and children under 16 will be admitted free.
