WHAT’S NEW Open pit equipment Mobile conveyor-ore-stacker

The Florida Canyon mine, in Nevada, (85%-held by Pegasus Gold of Vancouver) has installed a 457-m mobile conveyor and ore-stacker. Manufactured by the R.A. Hanson Co. of Spokane, Wash., the mobile conveyor is used to build circular heap leaching pads 914 m in diameter and 18 m high. Ore is added to the pads at a rate of 600-700 tons per hour. A control system keeps level and properly aligned the crawler-track- mounted conveyor while it is moving and climbing grades up to 15%. A tripper, which includes a slewing conveyor, travels the length of the conveyor to discharge the ore.

The entire conveyor moves in an arc under its own power as the leading edge of the pile advances. The complete pile will be placed in a series of 2-m lifts. Additional control systems integrate the speed and direction of the travelling tripper as well as the movement of the conveyor to build a very uniform pile. Maximium material size is 60 inches in diameter.
