Drilling was recently completed on the Fontana property in Duverny Twp., near Amos, Que., Bay Resources and Services reports. Bay has a 75% interest in the property, with Jilbey Industries holding the other 25%.
The drill program has so far outlined a gold-bearing quartz vein system (No 27) at least 700 ft in length along a main shear zone structure, the Fontana shear, which grades 0.22 oz gold per ton (cut values) across an average width of 5.9 ft. Gold mineralization is mainly of the free type but also occurs with sulphides. Spacing between holes was 100-150 ft. The quartz vein system has been recognized by one deep hole, which returned low values, to a depth of 950 ft.
The drilling results, combined with other exploration work, have indicated, in three different parts of the property, the presence of stockworks of gold-bearing quartz veins and veinlets of variable lengths and widths, the company reports.
The stockwork on the Fontana shear is at least 300-400 ft wide and has been followed by drilling and surface sampling and trenching along more than 2,000 ft. The stockwork system on the Bunkhouse vein is 300 ft wide and has been traced, to date, over a length of about 1,000 ft.
A program of stripping and bulk sampling of the stockworks (the overburden is fairly thin) to establish tonnages and grades is under way.
Preparations are also being made to dewater the old shaft near the Fontana shear and explore underground the mining potential of vein system No 27 at a depth of 250 ft. Because of the nature and erratic distribution of the gold mineralization, drilling alone cannot be used as an effective exploration tool; evaluation by development is necessary, the company reports. A $6.4-million exploration program is planned.
Bay is 89.7% owned by Ste. Genevieve Resources of Montreal.
