Underground explosion kills two at B.C mine

The cause of the explosion is still being investigated but it was thought to have involved a storage magazine holding several hundred pounds of ANFO and packaged explosives which detonated. A daring helicopter airlift in high winds and sub-zero temperatures helped evacuate the injured personnel. The Department of Mines and RCMP are investigating the accident. The property is a joint venture between Newhawk Gold Mines and Granduc Mines.
