Sherritt resolves refinery troubles

Feed from supplier Inco Ltd.’s (TSE) Thompson, Man., operation caused production problems at Sherritt’s Alberta refinery.

Sherritt reports its production loss between March and early June totalled about four million lb of nickel, or about 30% of scheduled second-quarter output.

Sherritt reports it expects to be compensated for the additional costs and other losses stemming from the treatment of off-specification feed.

Earlier this year, Inco experienced higher than acceptable levels of arsenic in ore being extracted from the Thompson open pit. Sherritt buys matte from Inco for its refinery.
