Sikaman makes wollastonite find

Prospecting has identified three zones, the largest of which strikes for 3,000 ft and is 800 ft wide. Grades of the industrial mineral range up to 50% with high grade zones averaging more than 70%.

The company is conducting metallurgical test work to determine the quality and grade of the product. Drilling is also in progress which will define reserves.

Wollastonite is an industrial mineral used in the filler and ceramics markets. There are also some uses as an asbestos substitute. Demand remains relatively small at 200,000 tons per year, with the bulk of that being supplied by Processed Minerals, a U.S.-based wollastonite producer and marketer.

According to Sikaman, product demand is growing at a rate of 12% annually. As a result of the find, the company has decided to defer its gold exploration activities on the Gilbert property and to concentrate on evaluating the wollastonite deposit.
