Claim sales net B.C. more than $280,00

Three mineral claim sales held in Nelson, Smithers and Vancouver netted the British Columbia government more than $280,000. Mines Minister Jack Davis said the mineral claims up for sale had reverted or had been surrendered to the Crown. Recent changes in legislation removed the barriers that blocked the sale of these properties.

“We held these sales to free up claims which had become closed to exploration and development,” Davis said. “The end result is that we have reopened 12,000 hectares of land to mineral exploration and development.”

The first mineral sale held in Nelson brought more than $120,000 in revenues as did the second sale in Smithers. The third and final mineral claim sale held in Vancouver brought in 562 bids on 156 available properties to net the province more than $40,000.
