LETTERS TO THE EDITOR — Old liability rules in new labor

I agree with concern over the proposed labor laws in your editorial “Driving Directors Away” (T.N.M., Aug. 24/92). The ridiculous situation can leave a responsible individual, who is spending time and effort attempting to rectify a problem in a corporation, personally liable for some corporate expenses.

I must, however, point out that the laws that make a director personally liable for certain corporate costs like wages, some income taxes and certain environmental costs have been, in some cases, on the books for many years. They are not just now being introduced by Ontario’s New Democratic Party in its new labor bill.
