BHP to explore for zinc in China

A joint venture agreement to explore for zinc in China’s Sichuan province was recently signed by BHP Minerals and Sichuan Non-Ferrous Metals Ore Resources Exploration Development Corp. (SREDCO).

Based in Australia, BHP Minerals has been investigating joint venture possibilities in China since 1986. The recent agreement follows the signing of a letter of intent between the parties in October, 1991.

Jerry Ellis, executive general manager of BHP Minerals, joined the Chinese delegation for the official signing in Chengdu, China.

“The innovative exploration agreement between BHP Minerals and SREDCO represents a unique opportunity for BHP to expand its worldwide interests,” Ellis said.
