LETTERS TO THE EDITOR — Industry counts on support of

Several years ago, Mike Leahy, a prospector in Kirkland Lake, Ont., was calling for more active lobbying from the mining industry in Canada. The lobbying started in earnest with the “Save Our North” group, based in Timmins, Ont.

Now the Mining Association of Canada (MAC) has launched a “Keep Mining in Canada” campaign which is trying to unify the lobbying effort across the country.

The MAC campaign has produced a high-quality information package debunking myths about mining and highlighting the industry’s contribution to our country. It is the sort of information federal and provincial politicians need for making decisions.

I hope Keep Mining in Canada will continue to be supported by not only the MAC but by other related professional organizations as well. The Canadian exploration and mining industry needs to dispel all myths and win back the support of the general population.
