Our family was deeply saddened by the passing of one of the many contributors to The Northern Miner. I am speaking of Andrew P. Horne, known affectionately to me as Uncle Andy. (Editor’s note: A brief obituary appeared in our Nov. 15/93 issue.)
Living on the opposite coast to my uncle, I did not have the opportunity to see him often. I did, however, come to appreciate his love of British Columbia and the mining industry through the many articles he contributed to The Northern Miner’s “Odds `n’ Sods” column.
He came by his expertise and love of mining naturally. The Horne family has been a part of mining in this country for generations — from E.H. Horne, whose copper discovery led to the creation of Noranda, to Edgar Horne, Andy’s brother and owner of Renfrew Gold Mines in Nova Scotia. Andy staked many a claim in British Columbia and the Territories.
My uncle cared deeply for the mining industry. He had a great love of nature and the splendor and beauty of Canada. He respected the land and the riches which it provides for our nation.
