Potash Corp. sees sales rise

Large potash producer Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan (TSE) is confident potash usage is on the rise for the offshore market.

The Saskatoon, Sask.,-based company, whose output represents about 10% of world potash production, said the World Bank predicts potash demand will grow by 1.6-2% per year as developing countries struggle to feed their growing populations a better diet. Much of this growth is expected to come from nations in Asia and Latin America.

Potash Corp., which exports more than half of its product offshore, reported net income during the first quarter of $12.3 million compared with $3.6 million for the same 3-month period in 1989.
