Goldex extends gold zone on Val d’Or property

Continuing exploration on the Goldex Extension (GE) zone near Val d’Or, Que., has extended the strike length of gold mineralization on the property by an additional 400 ft. The Goldex Extension project is a joint venture between operator Goldex Mines (TSE), which holds a 60% interest, and Ormico Explorations (ME).

The ongoing $1.9-million program, which commenced last September, is designed to test eastern extensions of the GE zone through both surface and underground drilling.

Some of the best cut results, including a 286-ft. section grading 0.13 oz. gold per ton in hole 12-127, were intersected in underground holes collared on the 1250 level drift.

Underground exploration indicates that the gold zone stretches across a strike length of about 1,200 ft. and to a vertical depth of 2,750 ft., Goldex reports. Holes 12-128 and 12-125 returned 51 ft. averaging 0.12 oz. gold and 44 ft. averaging 0.12 oz. gold respectively.

On surface, the partners drilled three holes, two of which had to be abandoned as a result of poor ground and difficult drilling conditions. The only completed hole, hole 91-1, encountered gold-bearing quartz-tourmaline veins at a vertical depth of 2,700 ft. and returned 0.048 oz. gold over 65 ft. The intersection suggests that the GE zone could extend over a strike length of as much as 1,800 ft.

The GE zone is estimated to contain preliminary reserves of 19.4 million tons grading 0.070 oz. gold, with a higher-grade core of 9.9 million tons averaging 0.087 oz. gold per ton. Mineralization is hosted by a granodiorite body cut by swarms of gold-bearing quartz-tourmaline veins.

Exploration is continuing with two drills underground, and the partners expect to complete the program in April.
