WORKER PAYRATES

Labor costs run between US$500 to $1,000 per month for unionized workers at El Indio. Workers also benefit from an incentive program, similar to mining bonuses at Canadian operations, and a profit-sharing scheme. Says Nibaldo Cordova: We need the best workers in Chile, the allstars. An average industrial wage in Chile is between $250-$350.

Under the heading Corporate Citizenship, El Indio also provides university scholarships to children of employees and loans for housing.
