Partners Inco Gold and Golden Knight Resources (TSE) are planning to expand production at the Casa Berardi West mine at the beginning of 1991, although the details of the expansion have yet to be finalized, says mine manager Bob Lepage. If everything proceeds according to plan, production from the two neighboring mines, Casa Berardi East and Casa Berardi West, will total 1,650 tons per day. For 1990, combined targeted production is 90,000 oz. at a rate of 1,322 tons per day.
Casa Berardi West, the more recent of the two mines, entered commercial production in April. The new producer has current minable reserves of 3.9 million tons grading about 0.2 oz. gold per ton, and is expected to yield about 40,000 oz. this year.
According to Lepage, operations at both mines are proceeding as expected.
Inco Gold, a unit of Inco (TSE) has a 60% interest in the mines, while Golden Knight holds the remaining 40%. As part of Inco’s plan to merge its gold-mining operations with producer Consolidated TVX Mining (TSE), Inco Gold’s interest will be transferred to the new company, TVX Gold.
