Letters to the editor Volunteers needed for rock shop

Over the last couple of years I have volunteered some of my time at the rock shop housed in the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto. This is an area where the public can examine rock and mineral samples and discuss them with volunteers. Traditionally, these volunteers are members of the local rock and mineral clubs. The Science Centre has recently encountered some difficulties in finding sufficient numbers of volunteers from these clubs. I believe that the geological community could do the industry a service by offering their time to communicate an appreciation of geology and perhaps the importance of mining in Ontario.

The Science Centre is fairly flexible in scheduling, and long-term, regular commitments are not necessary. I usually spend four hours on a Sunday, perhaps once every two months and genuinely enjoy the experience. Lynda Bloom President Citadel Gold Mines
