Drilling resumes on Douay gold bet

A new drilling campaign has started on the Douay gold property owned by joint venture partners Inco (TSE), Societe d’Exploration Miniere Vior (ME) and Cambior (TSE). The property is in the Casa Berardi gold area of northwestern Quebec where exploration efforts by several mining companies are focusing on a major regional fault structure with a greenstone belt of rocks.

According to Vior, which owns a 37% interest in the Douay gold project, two drills have started a 20,000-ft. exploration program to verify the lateral and depth extension of the Douay West gold deposit.

Operator and holder of a 42% interest in the property is Inco which estimates preliminary reserves in the West zone at around 370,000 tons grading 0.31 oz. gold per ton. The zone, which remains open at depth, has been defined over a strike length of 1,000 ft. and to a depth of 580 ft.

Vior President Claude St. Jacques says results from the new drilling work will be released upon completion of the first phase of the program.
