Southern Peru cuts ribbon on new plant

Southern Peru Copper (PCU-N) has opened a solvent extraction-electrowinning plant near the town of Toquepala in southern Peru.

The plant, which was constructed at a cost of US$103 million, represents the second-largest investment in Peruvian industry this year. The new installation will produce 40,000 tons of copper cathode per year, representing an increase of 15% in Southern Peru’s production and a 9% increase in national production.
