Recent drilling by Westmin Resources (TSE) is expanding the potential of the Wolverine zone at the Foot property in southern Yukon.
Westmin, which is earning a 60% interest from Atna Resources (VSE), drilled a fan of holes 50 metres east of the discovery section. Hole 95-10 hit 7.8 metres (true thickness: 7.4 metres) of 15.13% zinc, 2.31% lead and 0.38% copper, as well as 2.57 grams gold and 250.1 grams silver per tonne, at a depth of 159.6 to 167.4 metres.
Hole 95-12 extended the downdip 100 metres by intersecting 14.7 metres (true thickness: 11.9 metres) of 8.97% zinc, 0.8% lead and 0.87% copper, plus 2.32 grams gold and 316.2 grams silver, from 203.3 to 218 metres.
A third hole, 95-13, is being drilled downdip of hole 95-12. Westmin has thus far extended the Wolverine over a strike length of 100 metres, while a dip length of more than 210 metres was defined on the initial discovery section.
At press time, results were released for hole 95-11, which returned a true thickness of 9.3 metres (from 308.0-335.3 metres) grading 1.13 grams gold and 248.8 grams silver, plus 14.47% zinc, 1.38% copper and 1.65% lead.
Encouraged by results to date, Westmin intends to extend this year’s drill program into late November. As part of its regional program, Westmin is also drill-testing the Fisher zone 8 km northwest of Wolverine. Currently, section 8+000 E is being tested as a follow-up to hole 95-6, which hit 2.4 metres of 2.84% zinc, 1.41% lead and 0.12% copper, as well as 0.14 gram gold and 66.3 grams silver. Hole 95-6 was drilled on section 8+200 E and tested a target similar to the Wolverine zone.
A third rig is drilling on section 12+231 E, halfway between the Fisher and Wolverine zones.
