Atna proves up ground in Yukon

Drill results show that Atna Resources (ATN-T) has succeeded in tracing lead-zinc-silver mineralization on one of its properties in the Yukon.

Previous surveys on the Argus property, near Finlayson Lake, identified a glacially dispersed, lead-zinc-silver soil geochemical anomaly measuring 1.5 by 5 km and extending down-ice from a till-covered region. Subsequent trenching exposed disseminated and banded lead-zinc-silver mineralization grading up to 3.46% zinc over 3.7 metres in outcrop.

The property is under option from Toronto-based YGC Resources (YGC-V).

The recent drill program, which consisted of eight holes and 909 metres, traced lead-zinc-silver mineralization to areas of till cover, extending the zone an additional 900 metres up-ice.

Hole ARG 96-01 returned 7.3 metres grading 7.1 grams silver per tonne, 0.12% lead and 2.75% zinc, and 4 metres grading 13.5 grams silver, 0.65% lead and 2.86% zinc. Hole 02 returned 15 metres grading 11 grams silver, 0.75% lead and 2.67% zinc, including 1.6 metres grading 14.4 grams silver, 0.68% lead and 9.69% zinc, whereas hole 03 returned 1.1 metres grading 29 grams silver, 0.52% lead and 2.76% zinc, as well as 70 cm grading 32 grams silver, 2.16% lead and 9.5% zinc. Hole 07 returned 10.1 metres grading 18.7 grams silver, 0.86% lead and 3.26% zinc.

A first-phase, 5-hole drill program totalling 682 metres on the Money claims, 5 km east of the Atna-Westmin Wolverine deposit, showed anomalous results from three holes, including hole 4, which returned 2.9 metres grading 0.18 gram gold, 8.8 grams silver, 2,504 parts per million (ppm) copper and 0.42% zinc. Included in this hole was 1 metre grading 0.41 gram gold, 30.6 grams silver, 8,104 ppm copper and 0.4% zinc.

Hole 5 returned 3.5 metres grading 0.2 gram gold, 11.4 grams silver, 3,232 ppm copper and 0.39% zinc, including 1.5 metres grading 0.43 gram gold, 24.25 grams silver, 7041 ppm copper and 0.71% zinc.

The intersections are hosted by siliceous-sericitic and pyritic lapilli tuff.

The mineralization encountered in these holes remains open to extensions in all directions. A second phase of drilling will test the intersections downdip and along strike, as well as several other geophysical and geological targets.

The Wolf project is 50 km southwest of Cominco’s ABM deposit, where previous work has identified a lead-zinc-silver soil geochemical anomaly measuring 100-700 by 4,000 metres.

In related news, YGC and Arauco Resources have renegotiated their agreement that provides Arauco with an option to earn up to a half interest in the Corky and Mink base metal properties, also near Finlayson Lake.

The new agreement requires that Arauco reimburse $14,550 in staking costs and pay $42,725 to YGC this year.
