Following up on positive results from two 10-tonne samples from the Torngat property in Nunavut,
The sampling program is aimed at establishing large-tonnage targets. Samples weighing 50 kg were taken in regular intervals of 400 metres along the 37-km-long system. Also, 29 samples weighing 250-400 kg were collected from sites with the best combination of grain size and mineral constituents.
Given that 58% of the 37 km sampled are wider than 1 metre and 20% are wider than 2 metres, Twin believes Torngat has potential for hosting large-tonnage kimberlites. Dykes visible in the walls of the Alluviaq Fjord extend for some 400 metres and are expected to continue to depth.
Some 176 macrodiamonds were recovered in the first two samples excavated in April. Of these, 91% were larger than 1 mm (cutoff size: 0.85 mm). The largest stone was more than 3 mm in each dimension.
Meanwhile, diamonds have been recovered from a kimberlite dyke near Abloviak Fjord, where
Lakefield Research tested more than 100 kg of kimberlite and turned up eight diamonds. Two are classified as macrodiamonds.
The samples were derived from a 2-metre-wide kimberlite dyke that has been traced for some 6 km.
Tandem can earn a 40% interest in the 470-sq.-km property once Diamond Discoveries, a private American company, completes $5 million in expenditures.
To earn its interest, Tandem must spend $2 million or cover 40% of the costs incurred by Diamond Discoveries. When Diamond Discoveries has spent the required $5 million, Tandem has 60 days to come up with its financial requirements. Diamond Discoveries is granted an exclusive right for 21 days to finance Tandem’s $2 million. The deal has yet to be approved by regulators.
The property comprises six concessions and is said to have geology and structural features similar to those at Twin Mining’s discovery.
Exploration is ongoing and several target areas have been sampled. Results of fusion analysis are pending.
