Soquem, Eastmain drill deep at Clearwater

Exploration drilling by Quebec-government-owned Soquem at Eastmain Resources‘ (ER-T) Clearwater (or Eau Claire) property in Quebec’s James Bay region has extended several known gold veins at depth.

The 6-hole program had two goals: to test the depth extension of eight major veins containing a resource of 1.1 million tonnes grading 8.07 grams gold per tonne (uncut); and to define a group of 10 gold-bearing veins north of the 450W zone that are not included in the resource estimate.

Hole 90 intersected ore-grade gold in three major veins, G, H and I, thereby extending the drill-indicated resource below 200 metres of depth on section 300W. Visible gold was observed in the H Vein, which assayed 7.3 grams at a 251-metre depth.

Hole 92 also encountered gold-bearing actinolite-tourmaline schist and quartz-carbonate-tourmaline veins between 331 and 351 metres depth on section 475W. These are interpreted to be extensions of the JQ and R veins, situated 425 metres downdip from surface.

The remaining holes — 93, 94 and 95 — confirmed the presence of a new group of gold-bearing, quartz-carbonate-tourmaline veins ranging in grade from 1.34 to 16.87 grams, between sections 550 and 650 West. Visible gold was observed in each of the three drill holes.

This June, the partners will begin a $400,000 stripping program to evaluate the 850 West zone at Eau Claire, in addition to the Boomerang, Cannard and Natel gold occurrences in the Clearwater area.

Metallurgical tests are planned for the high-grade P, JQ, R and V16 quartz-tourmaline zones.

Meanwhile, across the border in Ontario, Eastmain and partner Quaterra Resources (QTA-V) have carried out line-cutting and surface geophysical surveys at the former’s Abitibi Extension project. The partners want to verify the location, orientation and strength of 16 electromagnetic and magnetic anomalies and then follow up the results with drilling.

With Eastmain as project operator, Quaterra is earning a 50% interest by providing $1.5 million in exploration funding over four years.
