Almaty, the former capital city of Kazakstan, will host KazMin 2001, an international exhibition and conference on mining exploration and equipment. The event unfolds Sept. 5-7 at the Atakent Exhibition Centre.
At the same time, the city will host a conference on metallurgy and metallurgical equipment.
The country’s mining industry is poised for growth, thanks to exploration and the expansion of existing mines.
More than 130 companies from 25 countries are expected to have exhibits, attracting about 5,000 visitors.

Cordilleran Round-up seeks helpers
The Cordilleran Exploration Round-up, an exhibition and trade show slated for Jan. 21-25, 2002, at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver, B.C., has put out the call for volunteers.
Volunteers are needed to assist with registration, as well as to manage core shacks and other attractions. Those who give their time will receive the equivalent of a student registration.

Big crowds expected at Expomin
More than 43,000 visitors and 2,300 exhibitors attended Expomin 2000 and even higher numbers are expected for next year’s gathering, slated for May 7-11 in Santiago, Chile.
The trade show attracts equipment manufacturers, service providers, agents, distributors and end-users from throughout the world.
In 2000, the event hosted national pavilions from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Peru, South Africa and the U.S.
The Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export (CAMESE) organized a Canada pavilion, which hosted 76 exhibitors. The association will also participate next year.
